Changing local user's password

This article is intended for any business admin looking to change/reset a local user's password on a non-domain joined computer or one not tied to a Microsoft account.
1. Log in as a user who has admin privileges
2. Search 'computer management' in Windows Search bar.
Select the System App under Best match
3. Expand the Local Users and Groups section
Select Users
4. Right Click on the user you need to change the password for
Select Set Password
5. Warning
You will receive a warning of loss of information, such as access to encrypted files and password database, saved under this user if the password is changed.
Typical users will not feel an effect of changing the password. It should be ok to proceed.
If you are uncertain, do not proceed with changing the password and create another user until the password is found or files are verified not needed.

Best practice: If a user needs to encrypt files, have them create a reset disk (USB).
Use the link below for instructions on how to do this.
6. Set password
You will be prompted for the new password and confirmation of the new password.

Best practice: Create a password that is 15 characters long, including upper and lowercase letters, a number, and a symbol.
Refrain from using personal information or easily guessable phrases.
Click OK when finished.
7. Confirmation
You should receive confirmation of the password has been set.
Please keep in a safe area just in case it is forgotten.

You can test the new password to make sure you set it correctly by logging out of the current user and logging in with the user that you changed the password for.
