How to create users or change their passwords

This article is intended for customers who have Windows computers.

Creating user:

You will need to be signed into an Administrator account to complete this

1. In your Windows search bar, type in "computer management".

Select the system app from the search results

2. Expand 'Local Users and Groups'.

Right click on 'Users' and select 'New User'

3. Fill out appropriate info.

Required info:

User name

Password

Confirm password

Keep 'user must change password at next logon' to prompt the user to change the password to their own discretion.

Uncheck this and check 'user cannot change password' if you'd like to keep control of the password

'Password never expires' - Default behavior is every 42 days the user will be prompted to change their password upon logon.

Keep this box checked if you do not want the user changing their password.

Click 'create' when completed

Changing a user's password

You will need to be signed into an Administrator account to complete this

1. In your Windows search bar, type in "computer management".

Select the system app from the search results

2. Expand 'Local Users and Groups'.

Click on users.

Right click on the user's password you'd like to change. Select 'Set Password'

You will get a prompt explaining changing the password could cause loss of information (such as Window saved passwords or encrypted files).

You can click Proceed if password is lost or forgotten

3. Create a new password for the user

Please try to keep to 8 or more characters. Including a number, lowercase, uppercase and a symbol.

Try to stay away from easily guessable phrases or words

Click Ok when completed. It will confirm the password has been set.

4. Test new password at log in screen

Log out of the current user by clicking on the Windows button, selecting the user name on the bottom left and selecting 'sign out'

Log back in using the new user or new password to test it was entered correctly.

If you kept the box checked to change password at next logon, it will prompt to do so
