Troubleshooting Computer Monitor Display

Info
This guide is designed for users who have access to a Dell Optiplex desktop as their primary workstation with a connected monitor by a VGA, DisplayPort, or HDMI cable
Warning
If your monitor shows "No Signal" or "No Input," it could means the computer isn't connected or turned on.
Please check to make sure your computer is powered up before proceeding.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Check the Cable Connection

      - Inspect both ends of the display cable for any loose or damaged connectors. This is the cable that runs from the back of your monitor to your computer.
      - Ensure it's securely connected at both ends, both to your computer and the monitor.
      - Replace the cable if needed.

2. Monitor Power

      - Confirm that the monitor is powered on. Look for a power indicator light on the monitor. Usually it is on the bottom right hand side
      - Confirm the power cable is connected to the back of the monitor and is secure.
      - Confirm the other end of the power cable is plugged into a known working outlet
Notes
Sometimes with movement of the monitor, cables become loose

3. Monitor Input Source:

      - Check if your monitor has multiple input sources (e.g., VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI).
      - Use the monitor's on-screen menu to select the correct input source matching your cable (e.g., VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI). Examples of each below

                                                HDMI                                        DisplayPort                                            VGA

4. Test with Another Monitor:

      - If you have access to another monitor, using the cables already in place, switch just the monitor with another known working one.

5. Try a Different Cable:

      - If possible, try a different cable of the same type (e.g., another HDMI cable). Sometimes, cables can become faulty over time.

6. Restart the Monitor:

      - Turn off the monitor, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes resolve minor issues.

7. Check for Physical Damage:

      - Examine the monitor and computer's ports for any physical damage or debris that may be blocking the connection.

10. Contact Support:

      - If all else fails, contact the manufacturer's customer support or consult with our IT department via ticket submission for further assistance.
